Halloween
This year's Halloween was fun throughout the week.
On Monday, we carved the Jack-O-Lanterns. I hollowed them out. Pumpkin causes the skin on your arms to tighten and dry out! My arm wasn't the same for 24 hours.
On Wednesday we went as a family to the Trunk or Treat at the church. Roland was a King, I his Queen. Eve was Nancy Drew, Samantha was World's #1 Mom, Riley a Black Knight, and Tucker was Optimus Prime (Transformer).
Friday, we enjoyed a spooky dinner complete with Toasted Brains (chicken and cheese toasted on french bread), lizard hearts and legs (pomogranate seeds and celery sticks), dragon scales (salad leaves), and witches fingers and blood (baked potato sticks with ketchup). For dessert, we enjoyed fish egg soup (tapioca pudding with a drop of green food color). It was supposed to be a clean out the fridge day and I do think I did that creatively.
The children had a lot of fun playing in the yard with some friends and passing out candy to the few trick or treaters we got. It was NOT a typical Halloween night in housing, usually the kids come in droves, they must have been at various other places that night though... it was slow.
Living in the heat of the southwest desert, our pumpkins barely lasted the week as they were rotting. We have had hot mid to upper 90's for weeks and I believe that the pumpkins were just too ripe this year. At least it was fun and they functioned for our celebrating.
Have a great week!
