My favorite soup!
This delicious soup recipe is a slight tweek on a recipe I found in my 101 ways to cook zucchini cook book.
If you like Butternut Squash, then try this!
Creamy Butternut and Zucchini Soup
1 cup onion, chopped
2-3 Tablespoons butter or margarine
4 1/2 cups diced butternut squash, be sure it has been peeled and seeded
2 small zucchini, sliced
1 potato, cubed
4 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon ground ginger, if you don't have fresh available, add 1/2 teaspoon powdered
2 cups whole milk (or whipping cream if you want it slightly creamier)
1 teaspoon crushed dried rosemary
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
In large saucepan, saute onion in butter until tender. Add squash, zucchini, potato, broth and ginger. Cover and cook over medium heat for 25-30 minutes or until all veggies are very tender. Cool 15 minutes. Transfer to blender in small batches, 3-4, and process each batch until smooth. Return all to pan; stir in milk, rosemary, salt and pepper. Cook over low heat until heated through (do not boil).
Makes 10 servings.
AND: it freezes well, so make the large batch, save some in sour cream style containers, marked, in the freezer!

Boy in Striped Pajamas
I wish that I would remember to post about books or movies that I enjoy more often, but I forget to! However, I wanted to take a minute and write about this one.
Boy in Striped Pajamas is written by author John Boyne. Nowhere in the actual story is there a mention by name of the Nazi's (only soldiers) or Auswitz (he calls their new home "Out with") but those of us with knowledge of the history of World War II recognize where this story is located and when. Bruno, the main character, tells most of the story from his point of view. I found it very well written and very moving. It is a short story and doesn't take long to read. I actually read it via book on CD. I then watched the movie. The movie was also well done, and a little more dramatic at the end, but I prefer the book (as I usually do).
I would reccomend that you try both the book and the movie and enrich your life by this insight to "What if a boy in that time period really was naive enough to not know what was happening to the Jews?"
The nice part about the book on CD was that at the end, there was a short interview with the author, very enlightening. And, there are great extras on the DVD also.
This isn't a DOCUMENTARY, but it is a good historical fiction. If you DO get around to reading/watching, please come back and post your thoughts and comments. I would love to hear what you think.

Family Photos
Last November (2010) we got together and had a photo shoot for the ENTIRE Stan and Chris Kitchen Clan. All are in attendance, including Melece and Wes's unborn child. We are only missing our deceased sister, Kaitlyn. Enjoy browsing and laughing because not all moments brought smiles to the little boy's faces.
